Overview of Duplex Stainless Steel Strip
Duplex stainless steel is the most widely used metal, offering excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability. In industries demanding materials that withstand extreme environments, duplex stainless steel strip emerges as a game-changing solution. Combining the best of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, this advanced alloy offers a unique balance of strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance. Whether for marine applications, chemical processing, or high-pressure systems, our duplex stainless steel strips deliver reliability and efficiency. As the industry standard for general-purpose applications, it combines durability with cost-effectiveness.
Duplex Stainless Steel Strip Feature
Duplex stainless steel strip is a two-phase (austenitic-ferritic) alloy engineered to exceed the limitations of traditional stainless steels. With a chemical composition typically containing 21-25% chromium, 4.5-6.5% nickel, and 2.5-3.5% molybdenum, it achieves a microstructure that provides:
- Twice the yield strength of austenitic grades (e.g., 304/316)
- Superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC)
- Exceptional toughness at sub-zero temperatures

2205 grade stainless steel
Due to its high nitrogen content, 2205 grade stainless steel exhibits excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. This makes the corrosion resistance of 2205 grade stainless steel almost twice that of other austenitic materials. In applications that require high strength and good corrosion resistance, 2205 grade stainless steel is widely used in the marine, petrochemical, oil and gas, and pulp and paper industries.
2304 grade stainless steel
Although 2304 stainless steel has the same corrosion resistance as 316 stainless steel, its yield strength is almost twice that of 316 stainless steel and other austenitic steels. In addition, 2304 stainless steel also performs very well in low-temperature environments, although there are some exceptions. This material is particularly suitable for use in the temperature range of -58 ° F to 572 ° F.
Stainless Steel Market has a large inventory of duplex 2205, 2304 and 2507 stainless steel plates and sheets, as well as other shapes of duplex steel, to meet your strict requirements for corrosion and high strength.
2507 grade stainless steel
This duplex stainless steel has strong resistance to chloride stress corrosion, high thermal conductivity, and low thermal expansion coefficient. 2507 grade stainless steel is suitable for applications that require high tensile strength and excellent corrosion resistance. 2507 grade stainless steel is widely used in the structure or mechanical components of marine, offshore oil platforms, and petrochemical equipment.
At the same time, it maintains the 475 ℃ brittleness and high thermal conductivity of ferritic stainless steel, and has characteristics such as superplasticity. Compared with austenitic stainless steel, it has higher strength and significantly improved resistance to intergranular corrosion and chloride stress corrosion. Dual phase stainless steel has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion and is also a nickel saving stainless steel.
Key Features & Benefits of Duplex Stainless Steel Strip
Duplex stainless steel has a solid solution structure in which ferrite and austenite are approximately equal in proportion, and the content of rare phases generally needs to reach 30%. In the case of low C content, the Cr content is between 18% and 28%, and the Ni content is between 3% and 10%. Some steels also contain alloying elements such as Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, N, etc. This type of steel combines the characteristics of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. Compared with ferritic stainless steel, it has higher plasticity and toughness, no room temperature brittleness, significantly improved intergranular corrosion resistance and welding performance.

1. Unrivaled Mechanical Performance
- High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: With minimum yield strengths of 450–650 MPa, duplex strips reduce material thickness while maintaining structural integrity.
- Enhanced Fatigue Resistance: Outperforms conventional steels in cyclic loading conditions.
- Excellent Work Hardening: Ideal for cold forming processes like stamping, deep drawing, and roll forming.
2. Superior Corrosion Resistance
- Pitting Resistance Equivalent (PRE) > 40: Withstands chloride-rich environments, including seawater and chemical processing.
- Resistance to Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC): Critical for oil/gas exploration and desalination plants.
- Oxidation Resistance: Maintains stability at temperatures up to 300°C (572°F).
3. Cost-Effective Weldability
- Low thermal expansion reduces distortion during welding.
- Compatible with standard austenitic fillers (e.g., 2209, 25.10.4.L) for simplified fabrication.
- Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) often unnecessary, saving time and costs.
4. Sustainability Advantages
- Longer service life reduces replacement frequency and material waste.
- 100% recyclable, aligning with green manufacturing practices.
